The Epiphone Les Paul Special is part of Epiphone’s new Inspired by Gibson Collection and is designed to recreate the sound of the rare single cutaway 1950s era Gibson Les Paul Special. Featuring a Mahogany body with a beautiful reproduction of the iconic TV Yellow finish and powered by critically acclaimed P-90 PRO™ soapbar single-coil pickups and CTS electronics. Mahogany has been the standard wood for the Les Paul Special since 1955. As a tonewood, it has a strong midrange, which makes it an ideal platform for P-90s. The Special has a set mahogany neck with a vintage ’50’s profile; the Indian laurel fretboard has 12" radius—a familiar feel for fans of classic Gibson electrics. This Les Paul Special has two soapbar Pro P-90 single-coils, made to match Gibson’s original specifications. This includes Elektrisola magnet wire, sand cast Alnico V magnets and tin-plated brass base plates. Voiced for rhythm and lead, they provide a wealth of vintage tones that work equally well in a modern context. The dual volume and tone controls use CTS pots for a smooth and accurate response. The bridge on the Les Paul Special is a Lightning Bar wraparound with compensated saddles. One modern concession: it's designed for an unwound G-string, unlike original models. Epiphone Deluxe Vintage tuners with Ivory buttons complete the classic look of the Special. Other high-quality specifications include a 5-ply pickguard, a Graph Tech nut, cream single-ply binding on the fretboard and a Modern Epiphone logo inlayed with mother of pearl on the headstock.
