When Mike Johnston contacted Gretsch about developing a new snare drum concept, he was very specific about what he wanted it to accomplish. It needed to be extremely versatile in every way. It had to possess a wide dynamic range, and excel in all playing situation across a wide variety of tunings. Lastly, it needs to live up to the look and heritage of Gretsch Drums. Question was, could it also be accessible to students and players who are ready to step up to their very first pro-grade snare drum. After 9 months of prototyping, feedback, and thorough evaluation, the Brooklyn Standard™ was born. Every specification is purposeful in the way it affects sound, dynamics and playability of the drum. The combination of a 5.5x14 Brooklyn formula shell, double 45 degree bearing edges, batter side tone control, 42-strand snare wires and 302 hoops make this drum a must-have for any serious snare collection. The drum is finished in Satin Black Metallic with a Silver Sealer™ interior, then accented with Gretsch tube lugs, Lightning throw-off™ and Gretsch Permatone® heads by Remo USA® An inside identification label specifies the year of production and is signed by Mike Johnston.
